Bio& Artists statement

My work spans drawing, painting, collage and small scale sculpture. Recent work concentrates on transforming 2D drawings and paintings into 3D sculptural objects, using personal drawings, with their intrinsic individual histories of mark making. The process stretches my subjective attachment to my drawings and challenges me to consider the sculptural form and the significance of mark making in an objective way. I experiment using a range of papers, including wall papers and incorporate craft techniques including tearing, weaving, stitching and binding. For me, the paper’s qualities of fragility, instability and softness, act as a counter to traditional, monumental, hard sculptural materials of metals, stone and wood.
